Remember to direct the ball toward the belly button or back foot of the batter.

Baseball Hitting Drills – Tips and Drills For Using Hitting Stick Trainers

 by: Nick Dixon

There are many versions of the “ball-on-a-rod” trainer. The batter will drive the bat through the box. I sometimes get frustrated because I observe the product being used incorrectly. . The ball will be positioned in a location behind the front foot. INSIDE STRIKE – The holder moves toward the direction of the pitcher from the batter. The ball should be positioned at a location inside the batters front foot. This teaches the batter to allow the ball down the middle to get inside the front foot so that maximum power can be generated during the swing. The batter swings and drives the ball in a direction that would be to the opposite field. The height of the ball should be raised and lowered in the strike zone to give the batter swings at both high and low strikes.

8. The unit is portable and requires no setup. If the angle is wrong, the end of the bat will hit behind the ball and the bat will never actually touch the ball. This location simulates hitting a pitch over the inside 3rd of the plate. Second, the holder must stand at the proper angle to the batter and direct the ball at the correct angle to the batter. They have different names but they all are great trainers to teach and train young players. The batter may have to take a slight inward step with the front foot to properly execute this swing.

The popularity come from the benefits they offer the baseball player, baseball coach, and the baseball parent. The purpose of these swings is to make the batter use the hips as the batter turns and hits the ball. I often see coaches and parents working with players when I visit a park. You can learn to hit without having to chase, pick-up or retrieve a single ball. AWAY STRIKE LOCATION – The holder will move around a couple more feet to give the batter a ball to hit that is on the outer 3rd of the plate. Allowing the ball to pass inside the front foot allows the batter to use the front foot and leg as a anchor and leverage to generate a more powerful swing.

As the inventor of the HitnStik*, Hit2win Trainer^, and SKLZ Target+ Trainer, I sometimes cringe when I see someone using the product incorrectly. All of these baseball trainers basically work and perform the same. The holder should make sure that the trainer safety strap is used to prevent the holder from losing their grip on the trainer when the batter hits the ball.

The holder changes location and height and allows the batter to take 6 swings at each location. Positive reinforcement should be given when the batter makes good solid contact.

1. The first and original version was the HitnStik*. These trainers are some of the most popular baseball batting trainers used today.

5. The batter should keep the head still and the head should stay down with the eyes on the ball throughout the swing.

10. +SKLZ Target is a registered trademark of Pro Performance Sports.

4. MIDDLE STRIKE CONTACT – The holder will move around a couple more feet. Make sure the batter does not over stride.

3. Make sure that the hitting area is safe with no one within 15 feet of the holder or the batter.

4. Every player on the team can take 30 warm-up swings each in less than 10 minutes.

Coaching Points:

3. The holder will change the location of the ball by moving.

9. You should not move the ball when using these trainers. Then later came other versions including the Hit2win Trainer^ and the SKLZ Target Trainer. The first thing to remember is that the holder should always direct the rod and ball toward the hitter’s back foot. It is welcomed in complexes and parks because it allows safe pre-game warm-up, requires little space, and does not damage fences. This simple rule insures that proper bat-to-ball contact is made. Make sure the ball is directed at the batter’s back foot.

The http://BaseballCoachingDigest.com has a great selection of BASEBALL COACHING and TRAINING ARTICLES. Check out the Bat Action Hitting Machine baseball pitching simulator at http://BatAction.com. The batter does not move. The ball hit is on the middle 3rd of the plate. It is important to know the proper angles when using this product.

2. The ball should be at a location just inside the batters back foot. ^Hit2win is a registered trademark of Nedco Sports Products. First, the product is to be used as a “still” ball trainer. *HitnStik is a registered trademark belong to Easton Sports. The ball should be positioned slightly in front of the batters front foot. This is what I call “coning out”.

2. Check to make sure the batter is using proper grip, stance and stride mechanics.

6. The batter should take a step and drive the ball.

The key to proper use of any hand-held batting device is KNOWING AND USING THE CORRECT ANGLE FOR THE DRILL YOU ARE DOING! If you do not direct or point the ball at the proper angle, the batter will always make poor contact. All of these are handheld units. The batter should attack the inside strike earlier to keep from getting jammed.

The batter takes 5 swings at 5 different ball locations. HIP TURNER LOCATION – The holder stands slightly behind the batter directing the ball at the batter’s bat pocket. This high speed training machine is 100% Guaranteed to raise Batting Averages and has a full year warranty.

7. Make sure that the batter is swinging in a direction that is free of persons should the batter lose the grip on the bat.

Former Giants pitcher Kasahara admits to betting: report | Reuters

The 25-year-old was suspended by Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), the country’s professional baseball governing body, in November for illegally betting on games, which included Major League Baseball and Japanese high school games.

Kasahara is said to have aided a former restaurant operator’s betting scheme by collecting money from two other former Giants players, and gambled a total of 1.2 million yen ($11,838.99) himself between September 2014 and August 2015, the report said.

Former Yomiuri Giants pitcher Shoki Kasahara has admitted to his involvement in illegal gambling at a hearing held at the Tokyo District Court on Monday, Kyodo news agency reported.

($1 = 101.3600 yen)

The NPB which prohibits professional players from betting on games, handed a one-year ban on another Giants pitcher Kyosuke Takagi for illegal betting in March.

Pete Rose, The St. Louis Cardinals and the Need for Consistent MLB Ethics Policies

The new information regarding Pete Rose is only of the ethics scandals that has hit baseball in the last few weeks. Rose’s efforts to finally make it to the Hall of Fame had been getting some traction earlier in the year, but that has changed now. Louis Cardinals, on the other hand, are the best organization in baseball. More recently, in 1981, Seattle Mariners manager Maury Wills extended the batter’s box closer to home plate so his players would have an easier time hitting late breaking curve balls. It is an unequivocal blemish on a franchise that, spin and self-righteousness notwithstanding, is one of the premier teams of the last 10-15 years.

These incidents might be lumped together under the collective notion of ethics violations or breaking the rules, but there are some real differences in both the actions and the likely consequences. Moreover, it is not yet clear how widespread the knowledge of this hacking was within the Cardinal system. Moreover, it was part of an effort to gain an advantage over the Astros by breaking the rules. By betting on baseball, although never against his team, Rose never sought an unfair advantage over another team or player or endangered his or anybody else’s health or safety. The St. This, of course, is also true of what Rose did.

The Cardinal case is different than the Giants case because baseball is in a position to do something about it while the relevant actors are still with the team and different from the Wills case because it involves more than one person. To downplay the problem, let the Cardinals handle it internally or hope that it goes away, the directions in which the issue looks to be going now, would be a big mistake. Every player knows that this is unequivocally forbidden in the baseball. Pete Rose as a player and manager was gruff, a little sleazy and linked to disreputable characters from the gambling world. Wills was caught, received a modest fine and suspension and, a few weeks later, was fired by the Mariners.

It is important that baseball send a clear message, not simply a punitive one to the Cardinals, but one that makes it apparent that high tech cheating will not be tolerated. The people involved in the Cardinal hacking scandal are peripheral front office personnel, rather than star players. In 1951 the New York Giants allegedly had a system of stealing signs that contributed to their great comeback forcing a playoff against the Brooklyn Dodgers and leading to Bobby Thomson’s famous home run, that may also have been the result of stealing signs. This information came to light long after 1951 making it impossible for baseball to do anything about it. The same cannot be said about the Cardinals actions. There are several reasons for this. It would confirm baseball’s timidity, open the door to further cheating and demonstrate again that in the commissioner’s office too frequently everything is personal.

The newest revelations about Pete Rose betting on baseball, something that had long been suspected is a sad coda to a sad story about one of baseball’s all time greats.

While this punishment is reasonable given how clear these rules are, there is another side to it. Lastly, from a baseball angle, although what the Cardinals did was not legal or kosher, the impact of this on play on the field is not clear. The technical term for trying to gain an advantage by breaking the rules is cheating. Rose bet on baseball, thus violating a cardinal, excuse the pun, rule of big league baseball. This also is the first case of this kind in baseball so MLB policies on computer related cheating is still largely undefined. This is true even if the Astros are a bad team in the other league.

There is, however, another reason. Rose has been punished for this with lifetime ban from baseball that includes keeping him out of the Hall of Fame despite his extraordinary career and his position as baseball’s all time hit leader. Louis Cardinals had hacked into the Houston Astros internal network, giving them access to private information and communication between Astro front office personnel.

This Blogger’s Books and Other Items from…. Hacking into another companies computer system is, according to many, illegal. The other is the news that the St.

There have been cases of teams cheating in the past. We know this because the media reminds us of this all the time and because their manager wrote a book called “The Matheny Manifesto: A Young Manager’s Old-School Views on Success in Sports and Life.” I have not read the book but am looking forward to the chapter on how to successfully lose in the post-season to teams that you had been expected to beat.

It is not yet clear what consequences the Cardinals will face for this offense, but the chances of anybody getting banned from baseball for life is very small
